Press Release: Project Seres Gets Official

So the day before the ‘big event’ (i.e. the half-marathon), I have a very exciting announcement to make. I will try and keep it quick, as I want to get to bed early and get plenty of rest for tomorrow however it cannot wait…I feel that I must share it with you tonight!

I have just received news that Compassion Fruit Society’s Board of Directors has voted in agreement to take on Project Seres. There is a lot of positive fall out from this decision, but the key to it all is that as Compassion Fruit Society is a registered Canadian non-profit organization, Project Seres now operates under this as well. So in other words, Project Seres just got official!

This is an incredibly important step for the project, and one that without the generous support of Compassion Fruit Society (greatly influenced by the unwavering faith of Greg and Heather) would normally take more than 18 months to get to. Being “official” now opens up a whole world of opportunities for the project including access to trusts and grant funding; being able to work with government organisations; and being able to legally fundraise.

Very importantly, it also means that I will continue to work closely  with Compassion Fruit Society’s other Guatemalan project – Project Somos – and with my dearest friends Heather and Greg.

There is still a lot of work to be done including assembling an Advisory Board for Project Seres, finalizing details of the arrangement and of course meeting and thanking everyone from Compassion Fruit – which means a trip to Vancouver in the not-too-distant future!

However for tonight, in my pre-race calm, I am taking the time to just be in the moment. As I look back at the last 5 months that have seen this project transform from one person’s dream for how the world could be to what we have today I am – well – totally humbled and speechless.

My friends – most of all Greg and Heather – thank you for your faith in the project, in me, and in our ability to make positive change in this world.

P.S. Since Project Seres just got official, you can now “officially” sponsor me for the marathon tomorrow – it’s not too late! So instead of going out tonight stay home, watch a movie and donate the money you save to helping Project Seres fight malnutrition in Guatemala.

Peace,

Corrina
